MEETING WITH THE SECRETARY OF HEALTH OF THE STATE OF GUERRERO, MEXICO

Within the framework of a project that Fundación Incluyendo México is carrying out in the country, members of the MELISA Institute were invited to a meeting with Dr. Carlos de la Peña Pintos, Secretary of Health of the State of Guerrero, who summoned those in charge of the most relevant areas of maternal health for the meeting.

The Secretary’s interest comes after the conclusions reached by researchers from the MELISA Institute along with outstanding international scientists in the natural experiment published in the BMJ Open where the determining factors for reducing maternal mortality in Mexico were identified.

Guerrero State worked hard to reduce MMR but there are still challenges to be confronted. For state authorities it is essential to begin developing evidence-based public policies and thus, prevent women from dying from preventable causes.
