MELISA Institute strengthens its leadership with new technological acquisitions for advanced research

In order to reaffirm our commitment to excellence in scientific research and high-precision diagnostics, this month we have added two new state-of-the-art equipment to our mass spectrometry platform, a KingFisher Flex and a NanoDrop, from Thermo Scientific.

For Mauricio Hernández, CLO of MELISA Institute, these acquisitions represent a significant advance for the research of our Research and Biotechnology Center: "The incorporation of this new equipment allows us to optimize our work, making it more efficient and reproducible, especially in the study of large clinical cohorts. This not only increases our sample processing capacity, but also significantly improves our response times," he explained.

The KingFisher Flex is an automated system for the purification of nucleic acids, proteins and other magnetic particles. Its main feature is its versatility, as it allows processing different sample volumes and sizes (from 24 to 96 samples simultaneously), making it ideal for laboratories with various extraction and purification needs.

For its part, the NanoDrop stands out as a state-of-the-art spectrophotometer specialized in the quantification and analysis of nucleic acids, proteins and other biomolecules. Its ability to perform fast and precise measurements with small sample volumes makes it an excellent and invaluable addition for efficient and reliable analysis.

Cristian Vargas, CEO of MELISA Institute’s Core Facility, expressed his enthusiasm for these acquisitions: "The incorporation of the KingFisher Flex and NanoDrop equipment will enhance the capabilities of our laboratory, allowing us to carry out more complex and larger-scale research by automating and standardizing sample preparation for mass spectrometry. The acquisition of these tools adds to the effort we have made over the last year to increase our mass spectrometry analysis capacity through the acquisition of a clinical proteomics chromatograph, the Evosep ONE, which allows us to analyze up to 300 or 500 runs per day. Without a doubt, these acquisitions aim to keep us at the technological forefront and improve our ability to obtain precise and reliable results in less time."
